It’s been a funny old week. It started so well with a lovely weekend away in Southport but ended up with a poorly Monkey covered in spots as chicken pox has arrived.
As usual I’m linking up with Morganna over at Coffee, Work, Sleep, Repeat to bring you all the little things we’ve loved this week.
Monkey is feeling very grown up with her “chapter books”. We’ve finished reading George’s Marvellous Medicine for the second time and we’re now reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
I finished The Keeper of Lost Things by Ruth Hogan this week. It sounded like such an interesting idea for a story but I couldn’t help feeling a bit disappointed by it. It just never seemed to develop into a real story and I was left wanting to know much more. I’ve also started The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood. It was recommended to me as I’d enjoyed The Power. It’s not an easy read but it is fascinating. Like The Power it’s not a book I’d say you enjoy but it is a book I can’t put down.
On Sunday I was an incredibly proud mummy as I watched Monkey run in the Crazy Pups race.
She loves running so she had been looking forward to the “doggy race” for weeks. She ran the whole way (about 1.8k although nobody seems entirely sure) in 19 minutes 12 seconds but more importantly she did it all with a huge grin on her face. It’s a long way on such little legs but that doesn’t put her off. In fact she’s already insisted I book her next race!
Nothing much to see here this week. We did make jelly to cheer up a spotty Monkey yesterday. Orange jelly because apparently that’s the best!
At the end of Sunday’s race Monkey was presented with a medal and t-shirt by Jo Pavey. She wore them with pride for the rest of the day and has also taken them into nursery for everyone to see.
The words nobody should ever utter when visiting one of my favourite restaurants – The Brass Pig. They are known for their HUGE portions and nobody ever leaves there hungry. Until I took Monkey that is. She managed to eat a huge hot dog with chips followed by several scoops of ice cream then rib everyone’s Percy pig sweets before asking “What are we eating next?” I honestly don’t know where she puts it all.
Monkey and me are off work and nursery for half term next week. Normally I’d be busy planning lots of adventures for us both but I’m not sure how much we’ll manage to get done with the chicken pox. We’re stuck in until at least Tuesday but as there are still spots appearing it could be even longer. Wish me luck!
