A style of her own – Living Arrows

You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth – Kahlil Gilbran

Living Arrows is all about celebrating childhood and each Monday I’ll be sharing a picture that sums up what I think childhood means to Monkey.

Pony loving, train loving ballerina

This isn’t the best picture I’ve taken this week. It doesn’t even come close. It’s just a quick snap on my phone but I love it. And I love it because it completely shows the personality of Monkey. She likes what she likes and isn’t bothered about fitting in at all.

When she chose her outfit this morning she wanted her My Little Pony dress and purple bow so that’s what she wore. Then I reminded her it was fancy dress day at ballet and she grabbed her Thomas outfit.

When we got to ballet all the other little girls were in princess dresses or your more traditional ‘girly’ outfits. Monkey loves a princess so I thought she might be bothered but not at all! She loved the other girls outfits but she was very happy being Thomas because “I like Thomas and nobody else has got it”. And they haven’t – a My Little Pony dress with Thomas tabard and ballet shoes seems to be a unique outfit!

I hope she will always stay like this with her own sense of style, liking what she likes and not worrying about what others think, especially what society says is for girls and boys. Today’s outfit was a bonkers combination but full of the things my girly loves so how could she not look beautiful?

  1. It’s so nice when children are happy to let their own tastes and personality shine through and not be influenced by the crowd. Love this photo and the sentiment behind it x

  2. Children have such a funky sense of style, I love it ! It’s ace that they don’t care what anyone else thinks and wear whatever they feel like. It sounds like she had lots of fun at ballet. #LivingArrows
